About the ArtistHanne Varming
Hanne Varming was born in 1939 in Copenhagen. She studied sculpture at the Royal Danish Art Academy from 1958 to 1965 under Gottfred Eickhoff and Mogens Břggild. Varming made her debut at Charlottenborg's Autumn Exhibition in 1963. She was a member of the artist cooperative, Comrades, from 1974 to 2001. Since then she has been a member of Corner, an association of artists located at Sophienholm, which is north of Copenhagen.
Post Danmark chose to use an image of her sculpture, 'Girls at the Airports on a postage stamp. Other well-known sculpture includes 'Apollonia,' which is on display in Viborg. You can see her works in many public spaces such as Kultorvet and Victor Borges Plads in Copenhagen.
Hanne Varming was awarded the Eckersberg Medal in 1988. She began receiving the artist's living stipend from the Danish State's Art Foundation.
