About the ArtistClaus Ørntoft
Claus Ørntoft was born in Silkeborg in 1959. He studied at the Kolding Design School from 1978 to 1979 and was a student of Gestur Thorgrimsson from Island 1982. From 1983-1987 Ørntoft also trained at the Sculpture School under Sys Hindsbo at the Funen Art Academy. He now lives and works at his atelier in Mygdal near the Jutland town of Hjørring.
Ørntoft is a member of the Artist Society, Vraa Exhibition and artist association Corner.
Claus Ørntoft is known for a series of sculpture projects. These include the Sculpture Landscape at Grønnegade in (1985-88); Lion and Worm and Samson and Lion at the Valgmenighed Church, also in Odense (1991-93); The Lions and Nine Hearts which was on display at the Marselisborg Slots Park in Aarhus in 2012 and the Little Tectonic Place in Hirstals in 2016. You can see his works in Island, Greenland, and Norway. Claus Ørntoft was awarded Academic Councils 1985 Prize and is a recipient of the Danish State Art Fund and the Obelske Family Foundation. In 2015 he was awarded The Order of the Dannebrog. Ørntoft has been honored with the Minister Erna Hamilton's Legat for Science and Art in 2017 and the Niels Prize in 2018.
